Please join us for our first annual kickball tournament to raise funds for the Facing History School ranked as one of US News Best High Schools!

This will be a fun day in the park with music, fun competition and a whole bunch of laughs. Feel free to bring drinks, snacks etc for yourself or to share.  The rules of play are listed below…but let’s just have some fun together.

After registering each team will be required to submit a final list of team members prior to the tournament.

Expectations for the community

  • The Honor Rule, the most important one!  Be respectful and conscious of your actions.  The point to being out here is to have fun and we expect everyone to be a  good sport.
  • There will be no arguing with the umpire and all calls are final.
  • The umpire or field manager reserves the right to remove any players from the game or league if he/she is unsportsmanlike.

PLAYERS: Only roster players are allowed to play in the tournament. Be sure all of your players are listed on your roster prior to the tournament date.

  • 10 -15 players on the roster with at least 3 women. 
  • Only 10 players in the field at one time, but everyone kicks in the line-up


INNINGS:

  • Because each team plays an odd number of pool play games (3), Home & Away will be determined by a coin toss at the beginning of each game.
  • Pool play games will consist of 5 innings or 40 min, whichever comes first.   40 min is the hard stop, meaning that umps will call the game at the 40 min mark, regardless of where the game is.  The Umpire will give you a 10 min warning at 30 min and a 5 min warning at 35 min.  
  • Games can end in a tie (see Pool Play game point values below).
  • Elimination games will consist of 5 innings or 45 min, whichever comes first.  Umps will call Last Inning about 10 minutes before the 45 min mark.  Games cannot end in a tie.  If at the 45 min mark, there is a tie, we must go into an extra innings.  Each team gets an inning and starts with the next kicker on 2 nd base.

 SCORING & ADVANCEMENT:

  • A tie game after 5 innings or 40 minutes will be declared a tie in pool play only.  Eliminations, Finals and Championship games will not end in ties. 
  • If the home team already leads the game when the bottom of the final inning is reached, that team wins the game instantly and the game is over.  If the home team takes the lead during the bottom of the final inning, that team wins instantly and the game is over.  If an extra inning is needed, teams will start their at-kick with the next kicker in the lineup on 2 nd base, 1 out and each kicker starts with 2 balls in the count.  First team to have a higher run total at end of a full extra inning wins.
  • For Pool advancement.  A win in pool play is worth 3 points; a tie is worth 1 point; a loss is worth 0 points.  Seeding is determined by:
    • Wins/Losses/Ties (using point values above)
    • Head to head performance (when possible)
    • Runs Allowed*

This is basically how many runs you let the other team score.  Higher, the worse it is for you.  By using Runs Allowed, you put more pressure on your team’s defense instead of rewarding a team for running up the score on another team.

PLAY:

  • Kickball is based on softball with some added rules.
  • There is a 6-run limit per inning except in the last inning where no limit exists.

ROLLING/PITCHING:

  • Balls must be rolled (pitched) by hand and thrown underhand.  No sidearming or overhands when rolling to the kicker. 
  • Balls must bounce at least 2 times before crossing the plate.
  • The Strike Zone includes the plate, plus 1 foot on either side and a maximum height of 1 foot.
  • 4 Balls is a walk, 3 strikes is an out ( all fouls are counted as strikes) .  

KICKING:

  • All players on the roster are in the kicking lineup.   Everyone kicks!
  • Kicking order cannot change in a game.
  • The ball must cross any part of the plate before it is kicked or a foul ball is called.  No kicking in front of the plate.
  • There is no bunting allowed. You must follow through your kick or a bunt will be called (at the discretion of the ump).
  • A kicker must stand behind the plate before the ball is pitched.

FIELDING:

The defense consists of a Pitcher, Catcher, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, and 4 outfielders.

Outfielders must stay off of the infield until the ball is pitched.

Infielders must be behind the first 1st to 3rd diagonal until the ball is pitched.

Catcher must be at least 3 feet behind the plate.

Infield fly rule is in place: player may NOT intentionally drop a catch-able ball in an attempt to complete a double-play. Any fly ball within the infield deemed an easy catch with less than 2 outs and runners on 1 st and 2nd, or 1st, 2 nd, and 3rd.   If the referee observes this, then all players are safe at their next base, including the kicker running to 1 st base.

If a fielder interferes with a base runner in the baseline, the base runner safely advances to the base they were approaching.

Fielders making a play on a base must lean out of the baseline when making a play on the bag. If a fielder is standing on the base, the runner will be safe if he/she needs to avoid a collision at the base.

BASE RUNNING:

  • We will use safety bases at home plate to keep the runner and catcher from running into each other. The RUNNER MUST RUN TO SAFETY HOME base. Failure to run to the safety base at home: 1 st is warning, 2nd+ will be called an out.    The catcher must make the play at regular home plate (and not the safety bag).  Catcher can tag runner.
  • Runners must stay within base lines; when attempting to avoid a ball tag, runners may run up to 4 feet out of their path.
  • No leading off nor stealing.  Ball must make contact with kicker before runner runs.
  • Absolutely no sliding or diving head first.
  • Force plays are same as softball (if you do not know, ask the ump).
  • Runners must tag up as in softball (if you do not know, ask the ump).
  • Runners may be thrown out by hitting them directly with the ball. IMPORTANT: Balls may not be thrown at runners above the shoulders – if they are, the runner will advance one base further than the one they’re running to.
  • Pinch runners are allowed for injured players.  
  • All ties go to the runner.

A FOUL IS:

  • A ball landing in foul territory
  • A ball that lands in fair territory but travels into foul territory before passing 1st or 3rd base except when touched by a player.
  • A kick made beyond home plate
  • A  bunt

A BALL IS:

  • A pitch outside the strike zone
  • Any catcher coming within 3 feet of home plate before the ball is kicked
  • A ball must bounce.  Any ball that does not bounce at least 2 times before crossing the plate

AN OUT IS:

  • Three strikes 
  • Any kicked ball that is caught in the air
  • This includes a ball that is kicked in front of the plate and called foul
  • A runner touched by a ball at any time while not on base
  • A ball tag on a base to which a runner is forced to run

BALL IN PLAY:

Once the roller/pitcher has control of the ball in the rolling area, the play is over.
If the runner is already advancing to the next base, he/she may continue or go back to the base.
