On November 30, 2021 at 8 pm EDT, the stars of Broadway, TV, film, dance, and opera unite for a night of celebration to raise money for the Facing History School.

Higher Love  will stream live on YouTube on November 30, 2021 at 8 pm EDT.

Director/Choreographer Matthew Johnson Harris (Take Me to the World at Carnegie Hall, Alvin Ailey core instructor) will direct the night. “With the success of this event, we will meet the challenges of the year ahead and ensure our students continue to have access to an education that will help them realize their dreams,” Otto says.

Harris has assembled a diverse cast of the entertainment industry’s favorite stars for an interactive evening of singing, dancing, and more! Higher Love,  will feature appearances and performances by Nicholas Rodriguez (One Life to Live, Company on  Broadway), Angela Birchett (Lifetime’s The Clark Sisters, The Color Purple), Aisha Jackson (Frozen, Waitress), Antoine L. Smith (MJ The Michael Jackson Musical, The Color Purple),  Sapphire Hart (Beautiful The  Carole King Musical) , Jonathan Burke (Choir Boy, The Inheritance), Tamara Jade (The Voice), Tereno Burroughs, and Menage a Trios.

This event will be streamed live for free, but we will be accepting donations for The Facing History School prior to the event and throughout the night HERE. Mark Otto, Board Chair for Friends of Facing History School says, “With so much going on in our world we must come together to ensure our next generation has the access and opportunity to become the changemakers we desperately need.  All of us need to step up to make that a reality”.

As we plan our virtual fundraiser we ask you to consider making a DONATION of any amount to join us for a great night of inspiration and entertainment.

You may also consider sponsoring our event at one of the listed donation levels below.  All sponsors will be recognized during the event, on our website and a plaque will be displayed at the school in your name for the year.

Annual College Scholarship Fundraiser

Help us raise $5,000 to fund College Scholarships!

Each year, Friends of Facing History School awards several $1,000 merit-based scholarship awards to select graduating students who have consistently demonstrated the skills and qualities outlined below. This year, because of the pandemic, our graduates have risen up and persevered with hard work and an unwavering faith in the future. As they head to college, we need to support them so they can overcome economic hardships and realize their dreams.

The Change-Agent Scholarship: In every school community, some students find a way to make a positive and lasting impact. Oftentimes, these students see a need for a positive change that will benefit their fellow students, the faculty, or the entire school community. Rather than just complaining about the perceived problem, they take action. In the past, recipients of the Legacy Award have recommended a creative new process or a fundamental change to a school or teacher practice. The recipient of this award need not make the biggest impact but must demonstrate how their efforts positively impacted their FHS community and will continue to impact it for years to come.

The Advocate Scholarship: This award goes to the student who—with compassion, empathy and perseverance—has advocated for themselves and selflessly encouraged and supported a family member, another student, an administrative staff member, or a teacher. Recipients of the Advocate Award encouraged the school community to reflect on biases and assumptions, advancing our core belief that anybody can and will be successful, if given the opportunity.
