Annual College Scholarship Fundraiser
Help us raise $5,000 to fund College Scholarships!
Each year, Friends of Facing History School awards several $1,000 merit-based scholarship awards to select graduating students who have consistently demonstrated the skills and qualities outlined below. This year, because of the pandemic, our graduates have risen up and persevered with hard work and an unwavering faith in the future. As they head to college, we need to support them so they can overcome economic hardships and realize their dreams.
The Change-Agent Scholarship: In every school community, some students find a way to make a positive and lasting impact. Oftentimes, these students see a need for a positive change that will benefit their fellow students, the faculty, or the entire school community. Rather than just complaining about the perceived problem, they take action. In the past, recipients of the Legacy Award have recommended a creative new process or a fundamental change to a school or teacher practice. The recipient of this award need not make the biggest impact but must demonstrate how their efforts positively impacted their FHS community and will continue to impact it for years to come.
The Advocate Scholarship: This award goes to the student who—with compassion, empathy and perseverance—has advocated for themselves and selflessly encouraged and supported a family member, another student, an administrative staff member, or a teacher. Recipients of the Advocate Award encouraged the school community to reflect on biases and assumptions, advancing our core belief that anybody can and will be successful, if given the opportunity.
