COMMUNITY PARTNERS

Facing History and Ourselves
Facing History and Ourselves is a nonprofit international educational and professional development organization. Their mission is to engage students of diverse backgrounds in an examination of racism, prejudice, and antisemitism in order to promote the development of a more humane and informed citizenry.

Urban Arts
Urban Arts partners with schools where the potential for change is the greatest, using the arts to meet the needs of diverse learners and close achievement gaps. UAP provides support for students and teachers during the school day and during Extending Learning Time. They are committed to tailoring programs with FHS staff and teachers to best meet the needs of our students. FHS has a variety of arts prgrams for students including African drumming, visual arts, photography, theatre arts and more.

The New York Performance Standards Consortium
The New York Performance Standards Consortium was founded two decades ago on the belief that there was a better way to assess student learning than dependence upon standardized testing. Instead of basing a student’s future on a one-day (or two- or three-day) test, an assessment system should reflect a fuller picture of what students know and can do. The Consortium’s system is based on in-depth literacy, mathematical problem-solving, application of the scientific method, social studies research, a span of mediums for exhibiting learning, and a chance for students to have a voice and proud ownership of their work.
